Trail Overview
This 25-mile-long trail over Little Drum Pass in the Little Drum Mountains is located just south of the Drum Mountains, starting right outside of Delta, running West over the pass, and ending at the base of the House Range at Swasey Bottom road. This trail can be run in either direction and is a well-maintained gravel road that is generally two vehicles wide, though there are some blind corners and small hills to watch out for. Be prepared because, although being close to Delta, chances are that you won't have cell service and won't see many people, if any, while out on the trails. Despite being in the middle of the desert, the trail has some scenic areas as you climb to the top of the pass, with the unique rocky peaks around you and a pullout at the top of the pass overlooking the area. This trail is open year-round but may be impassable during the winter depending on the snow levels at the top of the pass.
History
The mountains here are named the Drum Mountains because back in the day, miners reported a drum-like noise coming from the mountains. There are numerous mining ruins scattered about throughout the mountains.
