Lava Rock Lookout

This short out and back features a few dispersed camping spots that may not be allowed except in the little corner of BLM land. It appears to be private property, but no gate blocks access. It's best to check beforehand. There are fields of sagebrush. You'll notice all kinds of nice rock formations and vistas along the way. As you near the trail's end, you may have to walk the last little bit to the edge to catch a glimpse of the massive lava flow between you and the valley below. It's a fascinating contrast. Watch for the field of cow bones and carcasses on the way in, and two small sharp rock garden sections could puncture a sidewall without careful tire placement.
