Trail Overview

From Provo Canyon the road to Hope Campground is paved. From Hope Campground to Rock Canyon campground the road is easy and relatively smooth dirt. Beyond Rock Canyon Campground the road becomes progressively more rocky and rutted until the final couple of miles where the road becomes easier. There are many amazing vistas and views. Also along this trail are many hiking, camping and picnicking opportunities. This road is closed from October to June.

Difficulty

This trail starts off paved and gets progressively more difficult including a potentially treacherous path along and eroding road. With snow pack it leaves little space to pass.

Drove south to north, passed about 4 parked cars by people hunting and drove past 3 driving cars. This trail is definitely way easier than a 4, I was in 2wd the entire time on highway tires at 45psi.

About 5 inches of snow at the peak and was a little slippery but other than that had fun.

This is not a 4 rated trail.. we have stock vehicles doing this in two-wheel drive. maybe a 3 rated on a rainy day.

North to South, trail was very busy due to everyone out to see the leaves. But after a few miles it wasn't bad at all. Trail wasn't bad at all, a little rough in the beginning but overall decent. Beautiful time of year with the leaves changing and the views are spectacular!!

This was my first trail. I have a stock FWD Vue with the 2.4 ecotec and a 4 speed automatic. It did fine. I aired down my front tires to 25 psi. I drove the whole trail. Lots of loose rocks and pretty bumpy in places but nothing too major. There are places you have to accelerate up if you have street tires. I stayed in 1st gear at about 10 mph the whole time. I'm surprised that I even was able to complete this trail. Still mostly flat with some ruts in places. The only time I was concerned was when the trail went on the open side of the mountain. If you are scared of heights. I would not try this trail. Or mainly this specific part since there is nothing to catch your vehicle if you do slide off. Will add more photos if I am able to. Great trail overall!

Dusty, rocky road. 4Xdrive not necessary. Much improved from years ago when I last went on it.

Rough rocky washboard road in some spots. Smooth gravel roads in others. Only passed one SxS. Quite for Labor Day weekend

Road is open. Signs show that a lot of the trails right off the side of the road are closed.

Kyhv Peak road is closed for the Buckley Draw fire. Coming from Provo, it's closed at the Rock Canyon gate, adjacent to the campground. From the Hobble Creek side, it's closed around 3 miles up, at the turnoff to Powerhouse Mountain road (70759). There is a posted closure order on the gate, and a ranger on the Hobble Creek side.
