Trail Overview
Located in the middle of the Sevier Desert, just south of the Great Salt Lake Desert, lies the Judd Road Petroglyph site. As with many of these sites, they are located on volcanic outcroppings and dates back between 1000 and 5000 years ago. The Judd Road trail is a 4.4-mile (8.8-mile round trip) out-and-back trail rated 2 of 10 located in Juab County. For the most part, this is a well-maintained dirt/gravel road and only received a 2 rating due to a couple of rough spots and the overgrown cattle guard near the end of the trail. There are a significant number of petroglyphs found along the stone ridge. Please be careful when climbing around that you do not touch or step on any of the artifacts. There is a small creek that flows part of the year running along the base of the ridge that must be crossed in order to climb among the rocks. There is a small parking area on the left directly after crossing a cattleguard. While some petroglyphs are visible from the parking area, others that have faded over time will require a little bit more searching. There is a large rock low on the ridge that is the most obvious approaching the site that has several chippings. As always, be careful not to touch or step on any of the rock art and enjoy the hunt. No cell phone service in this area, and the nearest services are all located in the communities along Interstate 15, some 50 miles to the east.
