Trail Overview
Horseshoe Way is an approachable, 1.2-mile dirt connecting trail in the Fivemile Pass OHV Area, perfect for beginners and those looking to navigate the region's web of off-road routes. This trail serves as a scenic, low-intensity link, ideal for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes looking to transition between more demanding tracks in the area. With elevations ranging gently from 5,380 to 5,547 feet, the route offers around 165 feet of cumulative elevation gain, making it a highly manageable drive. The primary surface consists of hard-packed dirt and loose gravel, presenting minimal technical challenges under dry conditions.
Despite its overall mild technical rating of 3, drivers should remain alert for occasional erosion ruts and potential water or mud holes that can form in low spots during wet weather. High-clearance vehicles will easily navigate these minor obstacles, while stock four-wheel-drive rigs and SxSs can enjoy a relaxed journey. Offroaders seeking to extend their stay will find scattered primitive camping spots equipped with rock fire rings along the route, providing excellent basecamps for exploring the wider desert trail network. The trail is best visited from spring through fall when dry conditions make for optimal traction and dust-free desert scenery.
Difficulty
This connecting route leads you through a spiderweb of other trails in the area. Nothing of difficulty to note aside from encounter erosion ruts in a few spots, as well as possible water / mud holes on trail during wet conditions. Scattered primitive camping spots with fire rings were noted in the area.
