Fallen Tree Gulch (FS#40634)

Fallen Tree Gulch goes west from Old Hwy 89 just north of Junction, UT, ascending to 7700+ feet in the Fishlake National Forest. It begins as a grave, sandy wash with few obstacles. As you move up through the gulch, you encounter some rock obstacles to navigate, none of which are very difficult, but they do require good ground clearance. The scenery is beautiful in this gulch. After a heavy summer rain, there may be water coming down the wash. It could become a flood scenario, but when we were here in late June it was dry. There was evidence in the gulch of water eroding the trail in places, creating ditches through the wash. After exiting the gulch at the top, the trail goes across the hillside to an old mining site. At one point of the gulch, a tree had fallen across the trail, and we had to move it to get by. A winch, a tow rope, and a saw made quick work of the obstacle. The gulch was wide enough for our 72" 4-seater SXS. Don't forget, to off-road in UT you need to have the online education course certificate as well as the OHV sticker.
