Trail Overview

This trail was run in a clockwise fashion, starting at the entry point off of 191. The Fallen Peace Officer Trail is a scenic and challenging route that honors law enforcement while offering a rugged and varied off-road experience. This trail winds through a diverse landscape with features that range from gentle gravel rolls to steep, rocky ascents. The Copper Ridge section on the north end is wide and accessible, offering numerous dispersed campsites and the intriguing remnants of an old movie set--a favorite for photos and staging. As the trail progresses southward, it transitions into more technical terrain with narrower shelf sections, steep wash crossings, and loose rock hills that demand attention to line choice and momentum. The trail's middle sections are rolling and scenic, giving way to gravel stretches that provide a break between more technical obstacles. Despite the changing conditions, the route remains well-defined and well-marked, with occasional tight turns and rutted areas that may test clearance. Expect expansive desert views, rugged sandstone formations, and the possibility of encountering wildlife, especially near wash corridors. While not as extreme as some of Moab's legendary routes, this trail requires a high-clearance vehicle and 4WD, especially after rain.

These technical sections are peppered with rock shelves and ledges, as well as shelf roads and off-camber sections with pinch points on the trail. 4Lo capabilities and a shorter wheelbase are beneficial on this trail. History

The Fallen Peace Officer Trail in Moab, Utah, was created in 2013 as a tribute to Utah's fallen and injured peace officers. It began as an idea from a motorcycling advocacy group, inspired by Utah State Parks Officer Brody Young, who survived being shot multiple times on duty in Moab in 2010. The trail honors all Utah officers who have died or been severely injured while on duty.
