History
The Quarry was discovered by sheepherders and cattlemen during the late 19th century. The quarry was later named Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry due to the proximity of the town of Cleveland, Utah, and the funding of early expeditions by Malcolm Lloyd. In 1965, the site was designated a US National Natural Landmark, and in 2019 was designated a National Monument. Over the years, well over 15,000 dinosaur bones have been excavated, with many thousands more awaiting excavation. This site is known for containing the densest concentration of Jurassic dinosaur fossils in the world.
