Devil's Playground and Dodge Truck Mines

Devil's Playground and Dodge Truck Mines is an outstanding 11.9-mile point-to-point trail in northwestern Utah that offers offroaders a fantastic mix of geologic wonders and historic mining relics. Starting near State Route 30 and winding northwest into the Bovine Mountains, the trail is ideal for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles and SxSs looking to explore unique granite formations and remnants of the area's mining history. The route climbs from 4,676 feet up to a peak elevation of 6,042 feet, taking drivers through a scenic high-desert landscape filled with bizarre rock shapes and expansive vistas. Along the way, several side roads branch off, inviting travelers to park and hike among the massive, weathered granite outcrops that give Devil's Playground its name. A highlight of this moderately difficult route is the short spur trail leading to the historic Dodge Truck Mines, where adventurers can view an old cabin, historic relics, and abandoned mine workings. For safety, visitors must not enter any of the old mine shafts or adits, which remain unstable. The primary trail surface consists of unpaved dirt and gravel with some rocky sections, earning it a technical rating of 4 due to uneven terrain and moderate obstacles that require basic offroad driving skills. This trail is typically best run from late spring through autumn when the high-desert passes are free of snow, providing a memorable day trip for those equipped with capable four-wheel-drive vehicles.
