Trail Overview
This route is a rough drive that keeps you working from start to finish, thanks to constant erosion damage and uneven terrain. Washouts are the main theme here, with repeated dips, cuts, and cross-drains that can make the trail feel like a roller coaster and have passengers joking about getting seasick. While most of the route remains manageable, the nonstop bumps and changing angles require attention and slower speeds. One of the larger obstacles is a rock ledge roughly two feet tall that must be climbed, making good clearance and careful tire placement important. Additional steeper grades along the trail include smaller ledges under 12 inches tall that add variety and keep traction in play. Between the rougher sections, the route rewards drivers with scenic views of surrounding rock formations, colorful desert terrain, and wide-open backcountry landscapes.
Difficulty
The biggest challenge on this route is the constant washouts, which create nonstop uneven terrain and slow travel. A two-foot rock ledge and several steeper grades with smaller ledges raise the difficulty further, requiring careful tire placement and good clearance. Most capable stock high-clearance 4x4s can complete it in dry conditions, but the roughness may wear out drivers.
