Trail Overview

BLM 46 is a dynamic, highly rewarding 2.0-mile backcountry trail that treats off-road explorers to a beautifully diverse mix of high-desert terrains. The deeply engaging transit initially starts out by winding its way smoothly through a notably soft, vividly colored sandy wash. As the path progresses, the environment dramatically shifts, abruptly transitioning from loose sand to a significantly rugged rock surface as the trail actively climbs upward onto a prominent, elevated bluff. Once you successfully conquer this demanding ascent and crest the ridge, the driving surface beautifully transitions once again, mellowing out into a deeply tracked, vibrant red-dirt two-track. This final, relaxed stretch playfully meanders through a pristine landscape before officially terminating at a spectacular, isolated elevated campsite. This premium backcountry destination generously rewards travelers with sweeping, unobstructed regional views stretching far across the sprawling valleys directly toward the majestic peaks of Zion National Park.

Difficulty

BLM 46 confidently earns a Level 3 Moderate technical rating, driven entirely by a specific, high-consequence obstacle encountered mid-route. While the initial sandy wash and the final red-dirt stretches are relatively straightforward and easy-rolling, drivers must successfully conquer a remarkably loose, distinctively off-camber rocky climb to safely access the upper bluff. This specific steep ascent requires a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle to properly manage the uneven, shifting rock ledges without slipping sideways or sustaining severe undercarriage damage. Drastically lowering your tire air pressures before attempting the hill climb is highly recommended to maximize your traction footprint over the jagged rocks and soften the overall ride.
