Trail Overview

BLM 30228 is a quiet, scenic route in the Dixie National Forest that offers a mellow yet engaging drive through open meadows, young cedar groves, and forested hillsides. The trail begins from the south in a vast, open meadow where new cedar trees are sprouting, with expansive views of the distant hills and low mountains stretching ahead. The trail surface is primarily sandy, with scattered small rocks and occasional deeper ruts that create slight off-camber sections--nothing extreme, but worth noting for lower-clearance vehicles. As the trail progresses, it gradually winds into a denser forest of mature cedar trees, where you'll enjoy beautiful views of surrounding ridges, rocky outcrops, and forested highlands. One important reminder: You'll pass through a gate--please close it behind you. The trail gently climbs to a peak elevation of 5,874 feet before slowly descending approximately 300 feet over the final stretch, making it a comfortable out-and-back with just enough variation to stay interesting.

Difficulty

This is a great beginner-to-intermediate trail with light challenges. The sandy track, minor off-camber spots, and rocky patches keep drivers engaged without being overly technical. High-clearance vehicles are recommended, especially in wet conditions when sand and ruts can become more problematic. 4WD is helpful but not strictly necessary in dry weather. Ideal for those looking to explore the quieter corners of the Dixie Forest with scenic rewards and minimal technical stress.

Trail's in pretty good shape. A little more traffic than last year. One small section with some runoff ruts the rest this same as before.
