Trail Overview
Marked clearly at its southern entrance by a weathered brown Carsonite Forest Service post indicating the junction with BLM 20, BLM 15 is a highly enjoyable, 2.3-mile point-to-point connector trail. This beautifully scenic backcountry route offers off-road explorers a wonderfully fun, distinctly twisty driving experience as it meanders steadily northward. The remarkably soft, vibrantly colored red sand two-track playfully winds its way through a classic high-desert landscape, heavily populated by mature green juniper trees and thick, rustic sagebrush. As you comfortably navigate the sweeping, undulating curves under a brilliant blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds, the treeline frequently opens up to reveal spectacular, sweeping panoramic views of the majestic, multi-colored stone cliffs and towering mesas looming beautifully in the far distance. Serving as a vital and deeply engaging transit between broader trail networks, this exceptionally pristine and isolated path perfectly showcases the rugged, natural beauty of the surrounding desert environment.
Difficulty
BLM 15 comfortably and confidently earns a Level 2 Easy technical rating, a score dictated almost entirely by its exceptionally soft driving surface. The fun, twisty 2.3-mile path fundamentally lacks severe rock-crawling ledges, deeply washed-out ravines, or heavily intimidating off-camber obstacles. Instead, the primary challenge on this point-to-point connector is safely navigating the persistently deep, vividly colored red sand that naturally defines the entire route. To successfully maintain your forward momentum without awkwardly bogging down in the distinctly soft ruts, a high-clearance 4x4 or capable AWD crossover is highly recommended. Drastically lowering your tire air pressures before hitting the trail will safely maximize your essential flotation, significantly improve your overall traction through the winding curves, and ensure a highly comfortable, remarkably smooth ride.
