Trail Overview

BLM 106F is a remarkably rewarding, 1.1-mile backcountry two-track that seamlessly escorts explorers to a truly spectacular high-desert destination. As the distinctly deep, red-sand path playfully meanders through a dense landscape of mature green juniper trees and thick sagebrush, drivers are treated to incredibly beautiful, sweeping views of the prominent Diana's Throne and the towering white stone cliffs looming in the distance. Because the exceptionally soft sand significantly restricts forward momentum, the journey naturally dictates a comfortably slow, deliberate driving pace. Along the transit, visitors will briefly pass through an area marked with a "Public Road Through Private Property" sign, requiring respectful and mindful navigation. The highly scenic drive eventually climbs upward through the treeline on a steeper, rutted incline, officially concluding at an absolutely amazing, elevated dispersed campsite. This premier terminus offers breathtaking, unobstructed panoramic views overlooking the deep canyon below and the stunning cliffs across the horizon, making it a perfect spot for an isolated overnight stay.

Difficulty

BLM 106F confidently earns a Level 3 Moderate technical rating, driven primarily by its exceptionally soft, power-sapping red sand and a demanding final climb. Like most of the rugged trails in this specific area, successfully maintaining your forward momentum without severely bogging down absolutely requires a high-clearance vehicle equipped with a capable four-wheel-drive system and a locking differential. Dropping your tire air pressures before leaving the pavement is strictly mandatory to maximize essential flotation and to significantly smooth out the bone-rattling vibrations caused by several sections featuring major washboard. Furthermore, because the winding trail weaves so tightly between rigid juniper branches and large sage bushes, noticeable cosmetic pinstriping is highly likely for any rig larger than a mid-size vehicle.
