Trail Overview

The Francis Marion National Forest, situated north of Charleston, South Carolina, honors the Revolutionary War hero known as the Swamp Fox, Francis Marion. This park encompasses the entire Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion and the Subtropical coniferous forest, offering a diverse array of trails. The Murrell Tract, which comprises the second half of the trail depending on the direction of travel, presents a challenging driving experience. The road section requires a high departure/approach angle and adequate ground clearance to navigate. Approximately three deep dips along the trail fill with water and mud after heavy rains. Alternative routes are available around the obstacles if necessary. I successfully drove most of the obstacles when dry in a leveled 2500HD Silverado. Wider vehicles would not be able to fit down this trail without minor pinstriping.
