Trail Overview
Smith Road is a 2.5-mile out-and-back graded gravel and ungraded dirt road. The road crosses PA State Route 153 at grade. The western half of the road is graded gravel, and the eastern half is ungraded dirt. It is an easy ride in the summer months; however, there is no winter maintenance. During times of rain, snow, and ice, the road can become rutted and harder to travel on. Smith Road is within Moshannon State Forest. There are numerous spots to stop along this road and enjoy the foliage and possible wildlife. There are a few camp sites located in this part of Moshannon State Forest to choose from. This region of Pennsylvania is a great place to explore in the fall, when the leaves are changing color, and the full beauty of the State Forest is on display.

Smith Road is a graded gravel road for the western half and an ungraded dirt road for the eastern half. The road splits at PA State Route 153, where it crosses. The eastern part is the section of the road that earns the 3 rating. It will be rutted and washed out in places. There is no winter maintenance on this road, so during snow and ice, it will become harder to travel.
