Trail Overview

This trail has it all: Mud, water, ruts, rocks, climbs & views. To run this route as a climb (how this description is written), start at Stony Run Road. The Mountain Laurel is very tight in many sections, and the one badge of honor you're guaranteed from this trail is Pennsylvania Pinstriping--you've been warned! The trail starts out relatively flat, but quickly turns muddy, with some deep small puddles. Before long, the ruts deepen and you'll end up at a very muddy section with even deeper ruts. Beyond this section, the elevation begins to increase and you'll enjoy some rocky climbs. Around 1800 feet in elevation, you'll be able to see some beautiful views of the valley to the north. There are several more deep puddles, and the trail ends with a few hundred feet of very dense Mountain Laurel, deep ruts, and water.

Difficulty

Due to the deep ruts and mud, you'll want an aggressive tire at least 33" tall.

3rd time driving this trail. It's is tight, anything bigger than a Jeep is gonna get pinstripes. After 2 days of rain, it was pretty muddy. On the west side of the trail, several of the mud pits have softer bottoms and bypasses. There are some spots that will test your ground clearance, articulation and line choice. I'd call this traol a 4/10

easy to traverse due to the fact we went when it was moderately dry, couple deep mud holes and then a bunch of rocks the rest ofthe way and then towards the end of the trail there’s a huge bog hole

The trail had a lot of water, but was a lot of fun. Full size truck beware. Midway through got really tight. Got a bunch of pin striping. But it was worth it!

Trail started off with several puddles and mud. No snow or ice left. Puddles and mud holes are all very full/deep. Lots of small branches down and 1 large limb which I cleared with my saw. The Laurel seems to have been trimmed back considerably as I remember it being a very tight squeeze in a few areas.

Very fun that my hoes were deep, but I was able to rock back-and-forth out of a couple of two where I got stuck for a moment I didn't have to winch a big tree out the way that had fallen on the trail.

Traveled west to east. Western half was pretty wide open, eastern half got tight with the laurel in full bloom. All the mudholes were good and wet.

The trail has potential to pinstripe your vehicle, but the current status in the early spring, nothing was overgrown. Some rutted areas with small washouts, and water holes less than 12”. Some slight off camber area and some rocks. Overall, east trail and I was able to proceed solo with no difficulties.

Lot of stagnant water even though it’s hardly rained for a month, glad to have seen it when it’s mostly dry, good potential for mud. Brush on both sides.

if you value your paint, stay off of this trail (very tight at times).Trail was pretty dry (very little mud), I had no trouble in my stock 4Runner (with very mild A/T tires). The trail is rough at times, but I wouldn't call it difficult. There's one spot towards the South end of the trail where a tree has fallen and blocked a rutty/muddy section that I remember being more of a challenge, but there is now a bypass around this obstruction. If you know what you're doing you can probably do this in a Subaru.

the water holes were pretty shallow this time of year(18" or less). the trail was still very narrow definitely expect pinstripes in just about any vehicle. there is a tight spot less than half way where a tree has fallen and the trail has a bypass. take your time I made it through in a 1/2 ton pickup.

lots of larger puddles, but easily passable. one towards the middle of the right was about 18in deep though. made it through easily with 32s. checked all of them with a stick. the area with the down tree and bypass can be tricky for a wider vehicle.

Great trail. Not a lot of pull offs. Some very large puddles/ponds. There is a section with a down tree and a pull around. The pull around is tight.

Trail looked as I remember it from approximately 1 year ago. Had no trouble getting through, even the stock JK Saraha with us had no trouble.
