Trail Overview
Rouges Harbor Road- A trail of Rock Run Recreation Area. Located on the Northern end of the facility, Rouges Harbor Road is a portion of improved stone roadway and unimproved trail, two vehicles wide for the majority of the 3.3 miles in length. Rouges Harbor Road was established in the 2025 season as part of the windmill construction project and replaced the former Barrens 36 Connector Road. As part of the project, portions were realigned, and both the grades and turns were made less pronounced. One end starts at the dead-end gate at the current farthest point east you can travel in the facility. The other end is at the dead end with the Railroad tracks gate. A portion of Rouges Harbor Road serves as a main throughfare from the intersection of Coal Haul Road through the intersection with Mailbox Road. This section of trail is one of the improved sections, with the other improved section being from the intersection of Terrace View Road to the railroad gate. The portion of trail in between these two improved sections is the same as it has been for many years, likely since the strip coal mine days. This section of trail is almost like cobblestones and will give your suspension a workout. In this original section, there is access to Hawk Lane, Holtz Hill Road, and Gas Line Cut-Off trails. The improved sections give access to various other trails, such as Rock Den, Lower Terrace Road, Radio Road, Mailbox Road, Gas Line Cut-Off, and Golden Arch Trail. You will encounter varying conditions on this trail. The improved sections you need to be aware of are the loose stone, potential dust in dry weather, and potential washouts after heavy rain, in addition to a few locations with steep drop-offs on the edge of the trail. Please adhere to the posted speed limit for the safety of all users. In the unimproved section, you'll encounter loose and embedded rocks, along with locations of mud and standing water, and tighter vegetation. This is a two-way trail and offers a different experience riding it both directions. This trail is open to all vehicle types. Trail driven and documented in August 2025.
