Trail Overview
Red Tongue Trail is a Drivable Trail within the Bald Eagle State Forest. It begins at a conversion of Third Gap Road, Mile Run Road, Pine Flat Road, and East Run Road, ending at a midway point on Pine Flat Road. Red Tongue Trail runs perpendicular to this convergent trail system and Pine Flat Road. It is a fun trail offering mostly dirt and mud; it is heavily rutted, and has some bench roads, with ever so slight off-camber moments, plenty of mud holes depending on the time of season, some small to medium rocks, and areas of tight brush. There is plenty of wildlife and big oak trees providing shelter and an abundance of food for wildlife. This trail is fun and easily traversed in an offroad vehicle, but becomes more difficult traveling in the winter months due to snow and ice, given there is a shelf road.
Difficulty
This is a heavily rutted dirt trail with rock gardens throughout that will test your suspension. The trail twists through the tight forest with thick vegetation on both sides, with a 15-inch deep mud hole at the end of the trail.
