Trail Overview
Outer Loop East - A trail of Rock Run Recreation Area. An original trail to the facility, though it has one section that was rerouted due to the windmill project in 2025, the Outer Loop East is a fan favorite and heavily utilized. It should be able to be traversed by anyone on an ATV, SxS, or motorcycle with some skill. At just over 3.6 miles in length, Outer Loop East is a dirt trail with both embedded and loose rocks. You will encounter some areas of standing water, mudholes, and potential rutting. This section of trail does have a few short, steep sections with loose stones and potentially changing conditions, while other sections are not as severe. One end of Outer Loop East starts at the main parking area near the upper day parking lot, with the other end at an intersection with Coal Haul Road near the 5 Bay Garage. There are multiple intersections along the entire length of the trail, giving options to skip the more severe areas of the trail if desired. Outer Loop East is on the Eastern side of Coal Haul Road and can be combined with Outer Loop West to create an entire loop. This trail travels both in the woods and in open meadows and offers some views in a few locations. One of the best views at Rock Run is located on this trail above the 5 Bay Garage at Wind Turbine #12. It is mostly one machine wide with areas to pass, though there are a few wider sections, and is open to motorcycles, ATVs, and SxSs. This is a two-way trail and offers a different experience riding it both directions. This trail is open to all vehicle types. Trail driven and documented in November 2025.
