Trail Overview

From the rolling fields to the south to the forest on the north end, this is a very pleasant unpaved road. If coming from Interstate 80, this may be how you enter this forest, especially if camping in this tract. Get gas before heading into the forest this way. The Love's truck stop off Interstate 80 at Pennsylvania Highway 28 is probably the cheapest you'll find in this neck of the woods. The motorized campsite along this road is quite nice. This road does have a fair amount of ATV traffic, so be on the lookout for other vehicles.

History

Firetower Road got its name from the fire tower established in 1921 at Hays Lot, used for forest fire detection until 1994. The road likely developed as an access route for both the installation and maintenance of the tower, as well as forest patrols and logging operations
