Trail Overview

Non-maintained Western section of Egypt Road SR 4017. The trail is mainly gravel with the occasional rock or washout. downed trees and branches can be expected. The trail is one vehicle wide, and backing up a distance can be expected. The trail passes through State Game Lands 159 and, dead ends at the closed Tanner Falls bridge spanning Tanner Falls. This is a great spot to get out and climb down to the falls but, be extremely careful on the ledges. Please TREAD LIGHTLY and stick to the trail as this does pass through Game Lands. The trail is open all year long but, will be extremely icy in Winter.

Nice little trail leading to the old (closed) bridge and falls. The trail was largely easy to manage in a stock Jeep, with a few minor washouts and some puddles. A fun stop for pics at the falls. Wish it was longer.

Egypt Road starts out initially as a public residential gravel, plowed, maintained road, but becomes a “closed“ and “unmaintained” road. This part is a snow-covered narrow road with a sheet of ice on top with occasional ascents and descents. Traction no problem with my lifted Rubicon in 4Lo. Have to drive slow, but overall not difficult. Drove all the way to the bridge at Tanner Falls, which was blocked with a closed sign. Walked around for a while with ice spikes, which was fun.

Snow and ice covered the whole trail, but was easy to drive. When you come from the NNW of Egypt Road, the trail is closed about a .1 of a mile before the falls. Looks like they might be getting ready to do some work.

Removed a large downed tree off the trail. Last section of the trail has a “closed” sign marking a large hole on the right hand side. Sign is only marking the hole and not closing the trail. Trail is a State Road and cannot be legally closed by the Game Commission, it’s a public thoroughfare.

There's a large sink hole about 200 yards before end of trail. Trail marked as closed from there.

Trail is open and clear all the way to the Tanners Falls Bridge, which is the end of the trail. Enter from the Egypt road side off 670. NOT the Upperwoods Road side.

If the first thing you come to is a closed bridge you came in from the wrong side. Closed bridge will be the end point if you came in from the correct “western” side. Egypt Drive off Bethany Turnpike is the correct side to come in from.

The bridge that you have to cross is closed and looks like it needs a lot of work to restore it.
