Trail Overview

Dog Run Road is primarily an ungraded dirt road. It is a deeply rutted, rocky, and off-camber ride in summer. However, there is no winter maintenance. The road will become heavily rutted and harder to travel on during rain, snow, and ice. There are areas of heavy mud and standing water. There are four stream crossings of Dog Run. During normal flow, it is about 12" deep. During spring snow melt and heavy rains, it will deepen to almost 3 feet at some crossings.

The 5 rating is very generous and disappointing. I'd rate this a 2 because my Jetta might have spun a wheel somewhere.

This was the first time my family and myself used OnX and our first time taking this vehicle off road. This was a perfect trail to begin on! I myself have minimal experience off road so I didn’t want to get into anything to challenging especially with my wife and kids in tow. The trail was very bumpy(my daughter especially loved that) and was a great way to get our “sea legs.” Plenty of ruts and some minor rocks to get over. Nothing our mostly stock Jeep couldn’t handle. There has not been much rain in the area lately so we didn’t need to put it in 4WD, even in the sections that still had some mud in them. If you’re new to overlanding or unsure about your vehicles capabilities then I would suggest this trail(assuming it’s been dry). We plan on coming back soon when it’s been raining for a while so we can test it again and pop our vehicle in 4WD. There were no major rocks to get over or anything we even came close to scraping on. Really looking forward to returning.

A bit rutted where I hit my skid a few times but probably could have done it all in 2wd. The crossings were all low about 6inches to a foot at the deepest

This road is rated a 5/10, I think it’s maybe a 3/10 at most. Starting South going North - starts super easy gravel road. Gets a little muddy by the couple creek crossings - water was low, maybe 6-10 inches at most. There are some down trees along the way that have been moved off the road. It might be a little more trickier after a big rain but still don’t think it’s anywhere near a 5/10.
