Trail Overview
Boulder Field- A trail of Rock Run Recreation Area. The Boulder Field Trail is an original trail to the park. It should be able to be traversed by anyone on an ATV or SxS with advanced skill. Motorcycles are not recommended. At 3/10th of a mile in length, this trail is part of the larger network at the park. This trail has two distinct segments. The first segment is a two-way section that is very narrow and quickly grows up with vegetation. It is mostly rock with some dirt and standing water. It does have an escape trail which exits to the Outer Loop prior to entering the rockiest part of the trail. From this intersection forward into the other segment of the Boulder Field, you will encounter a one-way trail that is all rock. This is the rockiest trail at Rock Run Recreation. You will encounter rocks of various sizes up to several feet. The trail is narrow and lined with all boulders. On a sunny day, you may encounter snakes warming themselves on the boulders. This section has no shade and offers views of the boulder field, which was created because of the past coal mining on the site. There are loose rocks and other obstacles on this trail. This trail also offers views of the surrounding valley. This trail is open to motorcycles (not recommended) ATV and SxS’s. Trail driven and documented in June 2025.
