Trail Overview

If run from west to east, there is a very rocky and washed-out climb from about 800ft to 1200ft in elevation that is not recommended for stock vehicles. Once you get to the forest signs, it will be just gravel forest service roads for the rest of the trek. If you aren't comfortable with the climb, then take the trail from the east and stop when you get to the warning sign about the road being unmaintained and take it at your own risk.

Difficulty

The western part of the track is best left to vehicles with 33" or larger tires and ground clearance of 9.5" or more. It is rocky, steep, and washed out. If wet, lockers are probably a good idea. It's probably best to skip it in the snow. The rest of the track is a normal gravel forest road that any vehicle can tackle.

90% of what’s marked as the trial is just gravel roads but the other 10% which is at the end/beginning is not maintained and quite fun! Would recommend with a 4x4, some steep parts.

Trail was covered in leaves due to fall. Entrance is hard to find from West side. You'll feel like you're pulling into a person house. The rocks themselves aren't challenging, but the washouts will have you flexing quite hard. Scenary was great.

Trail was leaf covered and dry with some mud holes. Washboard areas and moderate climb at west end is probably 33” and bigger for setup of rig.

This rough road rating only pertains to the west end of the trail. Steep, rough climb from rt 209. Ledges, off camber angles and ruts. But once on top of the ridge, it turns into a smooth forest road. You may want to take a saw, there were downed trees that were cut to pass thru, however there are many others leaning across the trail that could become come down and make it impassable.

From the west only the first 1/4 mile or so up to the state forest gate is tough. Embedded rocks and very washed out. It looks intimidating at first but I got up in my Cayenne Turbo without needing the lockers. The rest is smooth state forest roads and the only other people there were hunters.

You want to hit this trail west to east for most difficulty. Once the gravel starts, it’s maybe a 1-2/10 difficulty. The climb up is fun though

Fun trail, even with the downed tree! Did it all solo with no issues in my stock FJ Cruiser.

Gate was closed. If you go in the park entrance you can still hit it, but there was a tree blocking the road at the bottom. Maybe that is why gate was closed?

Done in a stock 2011 Colorado, there ewas only one spot I bottomed out and needed guidance from a guy outside. my friend came with me in his stock 2014 F-150 and had zero problems. the begging off or Rt. 209 is real off reading and then it soon goes to flat gravel.

I highly recommend taking this trail from west to east. I have a stock height 2024 Tacoma SR5 with factory all season tires and was able to make it up the rocky climb with no slips and one very small scrape on the underside in 4 low.
