Trail Overview
Worth Road is a short, easy to moderate OHV connector in the Tug Hill Plateau designed for registered ATVs and compliant side-by-sides linking Worth Road and Culpepper Road within the Lewis County OHV Trail System. While not a destination trail on its own, it plays an important role in connecting larger riding loops across the Town of Worth, offering a maintained county-designated route that is approachable for newer riders but still reflective of Tug Hill’s variable terrain. The surface is primarily native soil with a gravel base typical of Lewis County road-based connectors, with stretches of packed dirt that can quickly transition to soft spots, shallow mud, or minor rutting after rainfall. Elevation changes are gradual, but the region’s high plateau climate means conditions can shift quickly, especially during spring thaw or extended wet periods.
This segment is open seasonally as designated by the Lewis County Department of Recreation, Forestry & Parks, generally from late spring through fall, and may close during mud season or for maintenance, so riders must confirm current status before planning a trip. Limited sightlines through wooded sections and intersections with public roads at Worth Road and Culpepper Road require reduced speeds and awareness of local traffic, particularly where the trail overlaps or crosses shared-use corridors. As part of the broader Lewis County OHV system in northern New York, this connector is best suited for riders building longer Tug Hill routes rather than those seeking technical obstacles, offering a straightforward but condition-dependent link that can become notably slick and uneven during wet weather.
Difficulty
The trail features several deep mud holes that present a significant challenge, so come prepared with recovery gear. Many of these mud sections do not have bypasses; it is critical that you stay on the marked path and do not create new ones, as doing so puts our access to this trail at risk.
