Trail Overview

This started out as a loose gravel, non-maintained 2-lane road, nothing technically. This follows a river where there are plenty of pull-offs to walk down to the river. Also, there are sections to pull over and park to go hiking. At about 4 miles in, this changes to a much more technical route. The last 2 miles became more technical with mud holes, washed out sections, some climbs with loose rocks, and a 2-4" climb on a small rock shelf. At the end, you do have to turn around, but there is a section to park and walk down to the river.

Difficulty

Beginning of the trail is a 1 but the last 2-miles turns into a 2 with deep mud holes and loose rock climbs, limited pull-overs, and small rock shelf.

Went after heavy rains and the beginning of the trail was just loose gravel with lots of pot holes. The last mile is the more difficult part, but anyone with some ground clearance and 4 wheel drive cant do. Lots of mud holes.

Some rocks are wet but noting that a great tire can’t handle.

First 90% of the trail is not challenging at all - it is just a packed dirt road that can be traversed by anything. However, last 10% is not 2/10 at all. It is an honest 3 maybe 4/10 (depending on what criteria/experience you go by). You will need decent approach angle and ground clearance to run it safely.

The trail was blocked towards the end I had some friends with us and we were able to use my winch and pull to pull it across the road and down the embankment to open the trail up

This was a nice, relatively short, trail through a beautiful state forest.  The first portion of the trail is a groomed gravel which can be handled by any 2WD.  Once you pass a gated residence the trail becomes a bit rougher with ruts, puddles, rocky patches and small ledges, which would be best left to those with 4WD.  The trail ends at a small turn around at the Vernooy Kill Creek.  Cell service is spotty, at best, on this trail.  Also, this area is a known habitat for Timber Rattlesnakes so be mindful staying on the trail and keeping your eyes and ears open.  I did not see any rattlesnakes on my trip through the area.

I was in 2 wheel drive 95% of the trail there will be at least 2 spots that you will need 4x4 and decent ground clearance besides that it’s an easy trail

Starts with a long gravel road near a nice creek you should check out then after the private driveway that’s about halfway down the trail you’ll need a 4x4 vehicle with good ground clearance the trail at this point has some decent size dips and rocks at the end you will have to turn around there is no motorized vehicle beyond that point but you’re able to hike from there

The trail started off super easy, mild potholes and ruts. As you get towards the end the difficulty increases but is so much fun. I wouldn’t recommend going to the top in a vehicle that isn’t equipped with 4x4. Entire route is scenic and enjoyable. Drove 2 hours to get to this trail and would gladly do it again. Don’t forget to stop by the neat stream they got towards the beginning.
