Trail Overview

This trail continues into the remote wilderness of the Adirondack State Park. It consists of a few miles of easily accessible smooth dirt and gravel, with a couple of spots of slight washout that should have some caution taken in wet seasons. As you progress down this trail, the density of the surrounding forest increases and road quality decreases in some spots. Along the trail, you will find numerous primitive camping spots. You will also find two trailheads for the Mitchell Pond Trail, which is a non-motorized hiking/biking trail that leads to some campsites and Michell Pond. This can be driven by just about any type of vehicle, but low-clearance vehicles should note the possibility of protruding rocks from the ground that may be hard to see. Cell reception is not available along this route. No permit is required, but sign-in is encouraged especially if staying overnight. No motorcycles or ATVs are permitted. Read all signage and respect rules and wildlife. Don't litter.

Difficulty

This trail has loose and hard-packed dirt with no washboarding and also includes gravel sections and spots for mud and shallow water to collect. A couple of small washouts could be difficult in low clearance vehicles in rainy seasons. It's a very easy-to-follow trail.

This was a widely traveled camping access road. We saw a variety of vehicles, from a Lexus to a larger camper trailer. A pretty disappointing ride.
