I agree with the 5 rating others have mentioned. Took 2 hours to complete the trail, just barely had enough ground clearance in a stock 3rd gen Tacoma. Bounced off sliders a couple times but was definitely a fun trail. Hot spring at the end is awesome, make sure to pull the drain when you’re done. Couple of amazing camp sights along the trail, river was about 2 1/2 deep at the crossing.

Trail was open and fun, more of a 5 rating rather than a 7 there is one section if you are top heavy, I.E roof tent or loaded rack that can be sketchy off camber with river below keep you center of gravity low. Used On x navigation and it was spot on. River crossing still high but possible. Took 2 hours coming in from China springs.

The 7/10 difficulty rating is a bit high, at least if you’re going in the mid to late spring. My buddy and I went once in mid April, and again in early May, and a stock 4x4 with decent tires could do it no problem, just make sure to air down. The trail itself is mostly flat with a few moderate climbs and descents. The trail surface is mostly littered with lots of small rocks, with sections of slightly more rocky and soft dirt, but there’s probably only 1 or 2 sections you’d want to use 4 low in if at all. The views are spectacular, and the river has a lot of great spots to camp, swim, and float. There are a few river crossings but they were too deep for our stockish trucks.
Two caveats to all of that. There are two mud puddles about two thirds of the way down the trail. Trust me, they are to be avoided. Also, the trail can be very bouncy, so make sure everything is tightened and secure.

Trail Report – China Springs OHV Area
Started off from the China Springs OHV side — trail conditions were excellent and very manageable. A few spots have steeper inclines and some cambers along the way, but nothing too challenging.
There are several options to get around. We chose to stay down near the river. The leaves are starting to change at this elevation, making for a really scenic ride. We crossed the river a few times; water levels were low, and with 32” tires, we had no issues.
We didn’t see anyone until we got closer to the hot springs area, where a few groups were camping. Otherwise, it was a quiet, beautiful day out.
We’ve been up to this meadow a few different ways, and so far, the route from the China Springs OHV side has been the best — less rocky and bumpy than other approaches.

Trail was in pretty good shape. Gate was open but even if it’s closed there are always alternate routes. For an easier path of travel use the China Springs OHV route. Hot spring was well worth the journey

I missed the path and entered from Leviathan and crossed over to the river. The gate was open. There was a side by side cruising around doing some surveying in the flats.
The crossing to the hot spring was running about 20-24 inches deep in that spot I’m in.

been here a few times. usually very quiet. went father’s day weekend 2025 and no one on the trail until the very end 1 person camping and a father/son duo that had just crossed the river. river was pretty deep completely covering my 35’s. my dad decided not to attempt in his tacoma on 32’s. this was about 2pm river levels are less early in the am. if you use the Hot Spring pools please remember to pull the drain plug and move the hose to allow the pools to drain to avoid algae growth within the pool!!

We ran this trail with a total of eight broncos, of varying sizes and builds. This trail, as mentioned by other users, is definitely not a level seven. It falls somewhere between four and five. We entered the trail off of 395, crossed the river at the Hot Springs, and exited the trail via Airport Road. This is a less utilized exit but highly recommended and has a similar rating and has spectacular views. Both of these trails incorporate steep sectionsoff camber sections , stream crossings with decent size boulders, and steep inclines and declines. None of it however is a rated seven and nothing whatsoever like the Rubicon or even frankly Barney Riley. This is thoroughly enjoyable four wheeling, virtually no snow currently, and superb views! Highly recommended. Shout out to Gold Country Broncos!

Rocky. A couple hills but dont even need 4WD for the rest. Rocky and slow almost the whole way but nothing difficult.

Rated it a 4 due to the few water crossings. Super dusty, and rocky. Great views and fun trail.

I have no idea how this trail got rated a 7…the Rubicon is a 7. This is about as easy as it gets for an “off road” trail. If you decide to go out via the Blarney Trail get ready for a much more difficult trail although it is somehow rated as a 4. Makes no sense.

This is not a 7 this time of year. There’s a few spots that require some care, but overall easier than Barney Riley the week before. There are some fairly shallow creek crossings that have the most technical aspects on the trail. The river crossing to the hot tubs was 18” deep and bottom is rocky, but flat. Nice trail, but the 7 rating may only be appropriate for winter or spring snow melt which would make this far more challenging
