Trail Overview

Riverbreaks is a gravel road that climbs from the Missouri River bottoms turning onto Quebec Road. It is well-maintained gravel but can become soft and muddy after heavy rains. 4WD is recommended when visiting this area during bad weather or snow in order to climb out of the bluffs. There are many designated turnoffs for dispersed camping and hiking as well as a pistol and rifle range that is self-serve.

My wife and I enjoyed the Riverbreaks trail which is a mostly single lane, very well maintained hard pack gravel road in a MO Conservation area. The northwestern last few miles were muddy after recent snows. From the tracks, it appears that vehicles on the trail had some difficulty with climbing some of the bluffs. We threw a lot of mud but stayed in 2WD with no real problem's. There are several dispersed camping pulloffs and along the southern portion there is supposed to be an open gun range. However, there were Conservation crews working in the pulloff where we thought the gun range was located so we didn't stop. This is hilly and would present a need for 4WD if wet weather was added to the equation. We'll return after some snow.

A lot of mud and a couple water holes that we’re like a foot or two deep, some portions of the trail narrowed out and got pretty curvy. I enjoyed it a lot.
