Trail Overview
Overlook (FS 122) is a semi-maintained gravel Forest Service road within the Willow Springs Unit of Mark Twain National Forest. Overlook is the second offshoot of the FS 121, turning to the north, tracking down mildly eroded hill, passing the power line tract with a great view to the north of the valley hosting Route 76 and the hills beyond, after which the road continues downhill to meet the bottoms of the valley below the Blue Buck Knob where the road passes a private property and its gate to the north, eventually to curve around to the final turns of the track along a small pond, before concluding at a large 3 point turnaround area. Since this is a part of the Blue Buck Tower area, this road is restricted to day-use and is not permitted for overnight or camping use.
Difficulty
The Overlook is given a base rating of 1/10, being a hillside road with a steady grade over the eastern half of its track, going down a mild grade hill. In the valley bottoms, the road has sections of the gravel fading to dirt, with the potential to turn to surface mud in wet conditions. It is safe to expect the typical gravel-road complications of potholes, washboards, mounding of the gravel, and potential mild erosion along the hill. Difficulty could increase during heavy use, wet conditions, or severe lack of maintenance.
