Trail Overview

Trail 5356 is an easy, scenic dirt road in the Huron-Manistee National Forest, ideal for beginners, stock AWD vehicles, and standard passenger cars under dry conditions. Stretching approximately 2.75 miles with about 15 feet of elevation change, the route features a mostly two-lane dirt surface that occasionally narrows to a single lane. A low-lying section midway can become muddy and slick during wet seasons. The route runs north from West Nurnberg Road and transitions into Green Road at its northern end, offering access to Hamlin Lake and the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area. Several rustic dispersed campsites are located along the trail, following USDA Forest Service regulations. Autumn is an especially scenic time to visit due to the vibrant fall foliage.

The trail is definitely sandy but I watched what looked like a 2000 Ford Contour handle it so you’ll probably be fine😂. ~15 dispersed sites, all amazing, and there would be places to turn around if needed (not sure about a huge rig but definitely saw some in here).

Access Description

Located within the Huron-Manistee National Forests, the route is open to most vehicles. Dispersed camping along the trail is permitted but must follow USDA Forest Service guidelines, including staying a set distance from water sources and roads. A vehicle pass may be required for certain nearby recreation areas, such as those near Nordhouse Dunes.
