Trail Overview
The Pine River Corridor is an ideal route for offroaders seeking a scenic, mildly challenging drive with beautiful views of the Pine River in Wexford County. Spanning approximately 6 miles through the Manistee National Forest, this primarily single-vehicle-wide dirt trail offers a mixture of dense forest cover, occasional mud holes during the spring, and a couple of brief, root-filled climbs. Drivers of high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles and SxSs will find the route easily navigable, while those in low-clearance rigs should exercise caution as the exposed tree roots on the short climbs can cause hang-ups.
With a minimum elevation of about 788 feet and a maximum of 967 feet, the trail features gentle elevation changes and a cumulative elevation gain of under 90 feet. Scattered dispersed camping and boondocking sites are located just north of the corridor, providing excellent overnight options for outdoor enthusiasts. Beautiful, elevated views of the winding Pine River await along the southern edge of the trail, making it a highly rewarding route for photography and relaxing stops. Optional bypasses are available around the trickier climbs, ensuring a customizable experience for different driver skill levels.
