Trail Overview

Forest Service Road 9222 is an off-road trail for beginners. Located between Newaygo and Croton, this route is easily accessible. This trail is easy with nothing technical. This is a classical Michigan two-track. Most of the trail is a combination of gravel, sand, and dirt. The trail takes you through the Newaygo Experimental Forest. The forest was initially used for silvicultural research, studies of the chemical release of overstory hardwoods in pine plantations, and the growth and yield of northern hardwoods under different stocking levels. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. Regardless of the conditions, this is an interesting trail!
