Trail Overview
National Forest Service Trail 5534 is a short access trail to Brush Lake Campground and other nearby trails. Located off East 6 Mile Road, this route is readily accessible. This trail is very easy with nothing technical. Most of the trail is a combination of sand and dirt and weaves up and to the campground area. The campground is first come, first serve and has a fee for day use as well as a camping fee. For more information, check out the US Forest Service Website. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. There is a drive-in boat launch on the eastern shore of the river and a smaller carry-in boat launch in the campground. This site is very popular with anglers and hunters. It is also a popular wildlife viewing area and a good stop for viewing fall colors. Regardless of the recent conditions, this is a great trail for all!
