Trail Overview
NFS 5114 is a bidirectional trail located within the Manistee National Forest close to Big Star Lake. Starting from the west end, you'll begin on a sandy dirt trail with thick trees lining the edge of the track. Keep your eyes peeled for any wildlife roaming around! Also, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! As you weave along up and down the trail, you'll come across some washouts. These typically aren't bad, but something to be noted, especially with exposed tree roots. As you continue, you'll pass the Frog Marsh. The DNR has blocked all motor vehicle access here. Please stay on the trail. This is a trail that should be taken slowly to ensure you can take in its beauty. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Most of this trail is only wide enough for one vehicle, with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it still contains a lot of beauty and gives access to other great trails nearby. The east end of the trail finishes at S Birchwood Drive close to Big Star Lake. Regardless of the conditions, this is a fun trail!
