Trail Overview
NFS 5078 is a classical Michigan two-track trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located near East Van Buren Road and North 160th Avenue, this trail is easily accessible. Starting out you'll begin on a sandy/dirt two track in a dense section of the forest. There are several mud pits and rutted out sections along the route, and they start fairly early. Proceed with caution. 0.7 miles in you'll witness a small stream that crosses under the track within a gorgeous portion of trees. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! The trail finishes at the top of a hill with a small loop to turn around. There's a few spur trails that can be explored as well. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. Beyond the ruts and mud holes, this is not a difficult trail, and regardless of the length or conditions, it's a fun and scenic route to explore! As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands and the nearby private landowners so future generations can have access to these trails!
