Trail Overview
Forest Service Road (FS) 2297 combined with FS 2200 is a federally owned/ locally maintained Level-2/ Level-3 "two-Track" forest access route with a surface composition of gravel, sand, dirt, and native material (ex: leaves, pine needles, pine cones, sticks, branches). This route branches off of FS 2296 and FS 2200 within the dense coniferous and hardwood forest of the Baraga Plains Forest management land.
Difficulty
Dirt, sand, grass, gravel route typically unmaintained after rain or snow that may give rise to water crossings under 12 inches and obstacles such as tree/ tree branches and potential overflow from the Clear Creek.
History
FS 2297 and FDS 2200 are historically tied to glacial outwash jack pine barrens, intensive logging, and Henry Ford’s 1930s timber and model-town operations at nearby Alberta; these sandy routes now serve as popular motorized ORV and snowmobile trail corridors.
