Trail Overview

Cliff Falls Lasso is a state owned/ locally maintained, Level-2, "There-and-back" forest access route with a surface composition of sand, dirt, and native material (ex: leaves, pine needles, pine cones, sticks, branches). This route offers access to a labyrinth of forested "Two-Tracks" and footpaths within the deep wilderness of the Cliff River & Cliff Lake.

Sand, dirt, gravel, and grass route is typically unmaintained after rain or snow, which may give rise to water crossings >12” and obstacles such as tree/ tree branches.

History

Big Bay, Michigan, is a historic, former sawmill town located on the shores of Lake Superior in Marquette County. The nearby Cliff River is a 6.8-mile tributary draining through the Huron Mountain wilderness into Mountain Lake. The area is celebrated for its lumber industry, copper prospecting roots, and 1950s Hollywood history
