Trail Overview

West Bay Loop is a scenic and easy two-mile dirt track ideal for beginners, families, and campers looking for stunning waterfront views of the northern section of Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir. This trail is suitable for most high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes, making it a highly accessible route for a quick daytime excursion or an overnight stay. The lower portion of the loop remains relatively flat and smooth as it traces the shoreline, offering access to several dispersed camping spots close to the water. While these campsites provide excellent views, the ground is generally uneven, so bringing leveling blocks is highly recommended for anyone planning to camp in a rig or trailer. The upper section of the loop climbs slightly, reaching a maximum elevation of 5,157 feet, and transitions into a rockier and bumpier path as it extends toward a scenic overlook. This segment terminates at an elevated campsite that boasts panoramic views of the reservoir and the Salmon Falls Dam area, though visitors should prepare for high winds at this exposed point. Although Three Creek Road runs along the northern edge of the loop, the only active, driveable entrance connecting this track to the main road is located on the western side of the loop. Cellular service is reliable with about three bars of LTE throughout the area, and those interested in fishing on the reservoir can do so with a valid Idaho permit.
