Trail Overview

Perfect for stock four-wheel-drive SUVs and OHVs looking for stunning mountain vistas, the Warm Springs Creek Trail is a scenic, moderately challenging climb into Idaho’s rugged Sawtooth National Forest. Starting near Ketchum, this 2.7-mile route features a steady ascent from 6,069 feet to a peak elevation of 7,645 feet, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks as you climb. The trail climbs steeply over a loose rock and dirt surface, meaning traction and steady throttle control are required. Because the trail is exceptionally narrow with no pull-off locations, drivers must be prepared for potential trail pinstriping from encroaching brush and must stay alert for oncoming traffic. This trail is rated a 3 out of 10, making it highly accessible for stock high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes, though the lack of turnouts makes backing up necessary if you encounter another vehicle. Scattered primitive campsites are available at the lower trailhead staging area near Moonlight Gulch, with one highly coveted campsite situated at the top, making this an excellent option for an overnight overland trip. Although spotty cell service can sometimes be found at the summit, coverage is nonexistent throughout most of the canyon, making downloaded offline maps essential for navigation. Be prepared for a tight squeeze, especially for full-size trucks, and enjoy one of the area's premier quick mountain escapes.
