Smokiest of Domes

Smokiest of Domes is an 11.2-mile high-elevation offroad trail climbing from 5,709 feet to 8,023 feet in the Soldier Mountains. Starting near the Couch Summit parking area north of Fairfield, Idaho, the route offers panoramic ridge views, dispersed camping, and vistas of Smoky Dome. While the initial drive up Couch Summit is relatively easy, the terrain becomes rougher and less maintained upon turning off the main road. Navigating the washboards, loose rocks, ruts, and narrow blind corners requires a high-clearance 4WD vehicle. Numerous scenic turnouts are available for camping or picnicking.
