Trail Overview

Salmon Creek - FS T4800 is an easy, scenic trail perfect for riders of dirt bikes, ATVs, and narrow UTVs looking for a smooth, relaxing cruise through northern Idaho's dense forests. Spanning approximately 7.3 miles, this route is restricted to vehicles with a maximum width of 50 inches. Offroaders will descend from a high ridge elevation of around 3,921 feet down to 1,610 feet near the water's edge, encountering smooth dirt surfaces and very gentle grades along the way. The trail features no difficult obstacles to navigate, making it highly accessible to beginners and families looking to explore the Clearwater National Forest region. The trail begins high near Salmon Ridge and winds its way down along Salmon Creek, eventually tracking close to the shores of Dworshak Reservoir. Historically, this route served timber operations, ending near the historic Milk Creek Landing where harvested logs were sent downriver. Today, travelers can enjoy excellent views of the surrounding valleys and water, with options to connect to other nearby Forest Service roads for a longer ride. Because of its elevation and location, the trail is typically best ridden from late spring through fall when snow has cleared, offering a perfect gateway to nearby camping, fishing, and boating activities on the reservoir.
