Trail Overview

Want one of the best views of the Tetons outside Grand Teton National Park? Relay Ridge is the ride just for that. You start near Green Canyon Hot Springs without no idea of how picturesque of a view you are about to experience climbing to just under 9k feet (one of the highest points in the Big Hole Range you can reach on a motorized vehicle) from just under 6k feet. Along the way, there are multiple radio towers (43.73130, -111.36528) with the majority of this route accessible by high-clearance 4WD vehicles. Bring lunch and enjoy the view (if you can stand the view) It is recommended that this ride be done in the afternoon as the sun will be on your back and nothing will obstruct your views of the beautiful mountain range to the West on a clear day. Due to elevation, it is recommended this route be taken in late summer and fall.

Difficulty

This is not a route for an AWD SUV. It is recommended your vehicle has higher clearance with at least a rear locker to get to the radio towers. Outside the towers it is a ATV and Dirt Bike Trail only and there are 2' rock ledges and large rocks to navigate with large cliffs on both sides. Totally worth the view but not for the faint of heart.

Wet in some places up top shady areas. We got all the way to the top without issue.

very cold, plenty of snow drifts on the trail, we went about 2/3 of the trail with no issues, cold wind and temps we turned back down the mountain

Basically a road all the way up. The only spot that had a challenge was at the tail end of the trail going up to the peak where there were some 5-6” rocks that you could pop up or just ride around. Nice easy ride. Saw a Honda pilot taking the trail on

I rate this trail a 2/10. It’s a forest and service road for the towers. Some slower rocky sections, but 4L not necessary. Only 4H to help traction on fast corners. No major obstacles. I believe that a Subaru with AT tires would have no problem. Still hope I never see one there. Great views. 8,800’+ elevation.

1st mile or so is pretty clear. Once you start getting into the deeper forest, there's lots of snow on the road and it's pretty much impassable unless you have a really big truck or maybe chains.

Thought this trail was going to be harder but it was super easy! The last quarter mile is a little bumpy and there's some rocks but it was worth the view!

Easy going till I got to the trees. Made it a good way up through the snow but eventually got to a steeper section that my older tires just couldn’t handle. A sxs or a group could likely get through. Regardless the trail should be open to all after a week or so of warmer temperatures.
