Trail Overview

This trail is really amazing. It is only about 15 minutes off of I-15 making it pretty easy to get to. The trail makes a large loop around Oxford Peak. This is the peak the dominates the view on the east side of I-15 on the Malad Pass. Oxford Peak is also the highest point of the Bannock Mountains, which dominate the views from the freeway from Tremonton, Utah to Pocatello, Idaho. This trail will take the better part of a day and is particularly pretty in the late spring when it is very green with a lot of wildflowers. There are trailheads in Malad and Downey. The Malad trailhead is in Weston Canyon, which also makes it very accessible from Cache Valley. This trail is pretty easy for experienced riders. There are several very steep and rocky spots with large drop offs if mistakes are made.

We made the entire loop, counterclockwise but did not go up to the peak. The eastern trail near where the peak turn off trail is at doesn’t melt off until around July. We verified that the Eastern side of the loop has 2 very steep and rocky spots. 50” RZRs took a beating on the way down. We would most likely not be able to make it up those spots.

The eastern trail was I believe 419 was very rough for about a half mile with large rocks but it was doable with decent clearance on a larger atv. Overall awesome trail.

The trail up the east side of Oxford Peak is still impassable due to a couple snow drifts. Summit is not reachable, even from the west side trail.

Most of the trail is clear. a few snow drifts below the peak on the west side. We didn't attempt to go through, but with some time and motivation, it's passable to make the full loop.
