Trail Overview
This route goes from Spirit Lake, ID to the top of Mt Spokane via Inland Empire Paper logging roads and Mt Spokane Nordic Trails. Starting from Brickel Creek Road (via IEP Brickel Creek Gate), to Idaho Road (M8), to Mica Road (M17), to Linder Ridge Road, through the IEP Mt. Spokane Gate and ending in the Mt Spokane State Park. About 1 mile past the IEP Mt Spokane Gate you'll find a parking lot with a bathroom and can get back on the pavement if you wish to take Highway 206 back to Spokane. However, ORV vehicles are not allowed in the Mt Spokane State Park and must turn around at the IEP Mt Spokane Gate. Full-size vehicles only pass this gate. Cell service is intermittent in this area. IEP gates close seasonally. These roads are open to ORVs and full-size (50" or wider) vehicles beginning May 15 through October 31. The gates are closed to unauthorized vehicles from November 1 to May 14. An Inland Empire Paper land recreation pass is required. You can purchase an annual pass, family annual pass or individual day pass either online or at a few nearby locations. Or you can purchase a day pass at the Brickel Creek Gate with cash from the gate attendant. Check their website for more information, as well as their land use rules.
Difficulty
These roads are maintained and are typically in great shape. IEP owns most of this area so you may see logging equipment along the trails. Typically any low-clearance vehicle or 2WD vehicle can make it up this main road, although 4WD may be required during mud or snow conditions. Cell service is intermittent in this area.
