Trail Overview

This is a fun route to explore the desert area between the Menan Buttes and Market Lake Wildlife Area. The trail starts out at the parking area across from the buttes and winds through the sagebrush and lava rock eventually ending at Market Lake wildlife refuge. The difficulty of this trail is weather dependent. During the spring and winter, the trail can be muddy and difficult. Otherwise, it is pretty easy with just a few rocky obstacles that are as tough as you want to make them.

Difficulty

I chose a 5 for this because some of the mud holes can be quite deep and there is one obstacle that can be quite difficult.

Great trail with one major obstacle. With the right line anyone can make it through. Started raining about halfway through the trail. The big rocky section get a bit sketchy when it’s wet. All in all a solid trail.

The entire trail was dry and dusty on our journey. It was a fun trail with only one difficult rock obstacle, but it can be bypassed very easily. There were two dirt bikes, one SxS, and a couple of 4x4's High clearance vehicles on the trail but we were alone the majority of the time.

Fun trail, only 1 obstacle without a bypass. 4x4 with high clearance can do it easily. A few fun side obstacles add to the value of this trail.

Easy trail for the most part. Sunny dry day, so no mud holes, but could see where there had been some major ones earlier. Mostly sand, sagebrush and lava rock. There is one lava outcropping that is fairly steep and has the potential to high center if you don’t choose the right line. A high clearance 4-wheel drive is highly recommended for that spot. Our Bronco had no trouble.

Dry with a few water hole that are passable and routes around water. No traffic. No snow. Easy trail high clearance vehicle.
