Trail Overview
Meadow Creek Road is an easy, scenic 7.9-mile gravel route near Island Park, Idaho, that is ideal for beginners, family outings, and stock four-wheel-drive vehicles seeking beautiful meadow views and light offroad travel. The trail runs along the eastern edge of a large, flat meadow just north of Robin's Roost, offering panoramic vistas of open grasslands, old farming implements, and occasional wildlife sightings. It serves as an accessible point-to-point road with minimal elevation changes, climbing gently from 6,410 feet to a peak elevation of 6,547 feet with 226 feet of total climbing. Both ends of the route easily connect back to Highway 20 by heading west, making it simple to integrate into a larger day of driving.
The trail consists mostly of gravel, but high-mountain conditions mean drivers should look out for occasional larger rocks that could impact low-clearance vehicles. High-clearance vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes will have no issues traversing the path, which carries an easy technical rating of 1. A local lodge and restaurant located along the trail is a popular winter snowmobile hangout and serves great food during its limited summer hours, making for a perfect lunch stop. Travelers looking for more remote scenery can venture onto the spur leading toward Garner Canyon, which offers deep pine forests and a quiet escape.
Difficulty
The road is gravel but, like many high mountain roads, there is the occasional larger rock that should be avoided by low riding vehicles. This road is easily traversed by most road worthy vehicles.
