Trail Overview

Lee Ridge is a single-track trail that connects FS 5950 near Lolo Pass to FS 699 near the Lee Creek Campground along HWY 12. The trail has several steep climbs and many tight switchbacks. It can be ridden as an out-and-back from either direction or part of a larger loop using the Granite Ridge trail. As of July 2024, all trees were clear but some sections have thick brush. There is no dispersed camping along this ride. There are great views of Packer Meadow.

Difficulty

The initial climb coming out of Packer Meadow has several large steps just after tight switchbacks that increase the difficulty level of this trail. Multiple tight switchbacks on each end of the trail exist.

Adjusted trail rating to reflect difficulty. There are switchbacks, rock ledges, steep sections. Overgrown in sections with hidden foot catchers. Very fun and doable but was previously misrepresented. 32 year old decent B rider on a 450exc.

This is NOT a trail for bigger bikes such as the KTM 500EXCs we were riding. Switch backs are very tight with loose rock etc. 3 rating gives a false sense of security.

Many downed trees. Passable by skilled riders but I wouldn’t say it’s a 3/10 skill trail. Tight switchbacks, large rocks, tight hillsides, and many stumps and logs that can take out your feet and pegs. We made the whole trail through on 250s.

Trail was nice and dry mostly. Some dead fall, we cleared a few smaller trees we were capable of removing with the saw we had. We made it just over halfway(N to S) before the trail turned to snowbanks impassable with the bikes.

I wouldn't call it an easy trail. An easy trail you can take an EXC500 and XR650R up and this was not that. A few tight turns, rocks and down trees make this a tuff trail especially if you're riding heavy. We started on the Idaho side but had to turn around because of a 3 ft lip coming out of a switchback turn. We were able to go around and hit it from the MT side to complete the journey in reverse order and were rewarded with a freezing cold ride back to camp due to fall air and all the sweat we accumulated. I'd do it again on a lighter 250 but would leave big guns at home for this one.
