Trail Overview

Trail rating is a 7 due to loose rock, scree fields, tight switchbacks, creek and river crossings, and distance. No cell service on most of this ride, so bring a satellite communicator and never ride alone. Starting at Elsie Lake, take the Lake Elsie ATV trail. Follow this ATV trail for about 1 mile. Then take the St. Joe Divide ATV trail for several miles. These ATV trails are well used, so watch out for other motor vehicles. Once you reach Kellogg Saddle, turn off on Coeur d'Alene Divide Trail #8. From here on out, you will be on singletrack for some time. Once you turn on Trail 8, it is pretty tight singletrack and overgrown. Many down trees make the single track challenging. Bring a saw or be able to hop over rather large trees that are down on the trail. You can bag Elsie Peak on this loop. Elsie Peak offers amazing panoramic views of the Idaho mountains. Continuing on Trail 8 for several more miles of overgrown singletrack, you can bag another peak, Lemonade Peak. This is a good spot to take in some more views and take a breather. From Lemonade Peak, your next route of travel will be Pierce Ridge to Bronson Meadows. Once you turn off onto Pierce Ridge trail, it's a decent elevation descent and some tight switchbacks. Next is a challenging river crossing at Bronson Meadows. Follow Bronson Meadows NRT. Bronson Meadows NRT is pretty exposed and tight single track with some more switchbacks. After you conquer Bronson Meadows, it will lead you to Big Creek trail and some fast-flowing single track.
